The GHG Protocol Corporate Standard classifies a company’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions into three scopes. Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions from owned or controlled sources e.g. Fuel consumed in premises for owned DG Set. Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy e.g. emissions resulting out of electricity consumed that is purchased from grid. Scope 3 emissions are all indirect emissions (not included in scope 2) that occur in the value chain of the reporting company, including both upstream and downstream emissions. These are emitted through functions not directly within the organization’s control but indirectly impacting its value chain. These emissions are also the biggest contributor to an organization’s carbon footprint and hence play a vital role in accomplishing sustainable logistics.
The primary factors considered for calculating Scope 3 emissions are the mode of transport, type of vehicle, fuel, distance, and weight of the shipment. eDeL-EAR follows the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) Framework, which is aligned with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), a globally recognized set of standards and guidelines for measuring, disclosing, and managing emissions, providing a framework for organizations to assess their carbon footprint and develop strategies to reduce emissions.
The user-friendly platform of eDeL-EAR allows businesses to get real-time visualization of their Scope 3 emissions resulting out of services provided by Mahindra Logistics Limited.
